چکیده

The results on the fluxes of charged particles and neutrinos from a 3-dimensional (3D) simulation of atmospheric showers are presented. An agreement of calculated fluxes with data on charged particles from the AMS and CAPRICE detectors is demonstrated. Predictions on neutrino fluxes at different experimental sites are compared with results from other calculations.

Probing new physics with long-lived charged particles produced by atmospheric and astrophysical neutrinos

As suggested by some extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics, dark matter may be a super-weakly interacting lightest stable particle, while the next-to-lightest particle (NLP) is charged and meta-stable. One could test such a possibility with neutrino telescopes, by detecting the charged NLPs produced in highenergy neutrino collisions with Earth matter. We study the production of c...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE An upper limit on the electron-neutrino flux from the HiRes instrument

Air-fluorescence detectors such as the High Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) instrument are very sensitive to upward-going, Earth-skimming ultrahigh energy electron-neutrino-induced showers. This is due to the relatively large interaction cross sections of these high-energy neutrinos and to the LandauPomeranchuk-Migdal (LPM) effect. The LPM effect is responsible for a significant decrease in the cr...

Fluorescence emission induced by extensive air showers in dependence on atmospheric conditions

Charged particles of extensive air showers (EAS), mainly electrons and positrons, initiate the emission of fluorescence light in the Earth’s atmosphere. This light provides a calorimetric measurement of the energy of cosmic rays. For reconstructing the primary energy from an observed light track of an EAS, the fluorescence yield in air has to be known in dependence on atmospheric conditions, li...

Atmospheric neutrinos and discovery of neutrino oscillations

Neutrino oscillation was discovered through studies of neutrinos produced by cosmic-ray interactions in the atmosphere. These neutrinos are called atmospheric neutrinos. They are produced as decay products in hadronic showers resulting from collisions of cosmic rays with nuclei in the atmosphere. Electron-neutrinos and muon-neutrinos are produced mainly by the decay chain of charged pions to mu...

Fluxes of Atmospheric Neutrinos and Related Cosmic Rays

The atmospheric neutrino beam simultaneously spans a range of pathlengths from ten to ten thousand kilometers, which correspond respectively to downwardand upward-going neutrinos. As with any neutrino oscillation experiment, also in this case the interpretation of the data depends on a detailed knowledge of the neutrino beam. The ingredients are the primary spectrum of cosmic-ray nucleons, the ...
